JOOL City

About This Project: I was approached by a client who asked if I could create a series of illustrations representing Oregon using well-known thematic motifs often associated with the state. The illustrations were part of a larger project that depicts well known travel locations within the United States, with the illustrations to be printed on clothing and accessories in stores and online. The target market was tourists and shoppers looking for fun Oregon memorabilia.

The client wanted the drawings to have a mid-century vibe with a limited palette of white and orange as primary colors and blue and gray secondary colors. The client wanted each illustration to capture an aspect of Oregon that would resonate with the people who lived there and the tourists coming to visit the state. They also wanted the illustrations to have a lighthearted tone and reflect a feeling of the outdoors, mystery and adventure.

The deadline was fairly relaxed, and with a few rounds of adjustments, the project was completed after three weeks. The digital files were prepared for production on a variety of surfaces, such as vinyl, ceramic, cotton and synthetic fabrics, and paper.

The final result was a series of whimsical scenes that evoked the spirit and myths of Oregon state, from Bigfoot and lumberjacks, to beavers and camper vans. The project came to a successful close when the client happily accepted all presented designs.
